১. বরানগরের বাসিন্দা, ছাত্র৷ বয়স ২০। গতকাল থেকে জ্বর, শ্বাসকষ্ট,  গলায় ব্যাথা। নিজের এবং পরিবারের উদ্যোগে এলাকার থানায় যোগাযোগ করে হাসপাতালে যেতে চায়। কোভিড টেস্টের জন্য।  সারা সকাল হেল্প লাইনে ফোন করে, কেউ ধরে নি। গাড়ির ব্যবস্থা করে। বেলেঘাটা আইডি হাসপাতালে পৌঁছে যায় বেলা বারোটার মধ্যে।

২. বেলেঘাটা আইডিতে কী কী উপসর্গ হচ্ছে জেনে নেওয়া হয়। এম আর বাঙুর  হাসপাতালে রেফার করা হয়। রেফারেন্স লেটারটি লেখার সময়ে নাম, ঠিকানা, ফোন নম্বর ইত্যাদি জরুরি তথ্যগুলিকে ভয়ানকভাবে বিকৃত করা হয়। রোগী ও বাড়ির লোক বারবার বলা সত্ত্বেও সঠিক বানান, পিন কোড, বাসস্থানের অঞ্চল লেখা হয় নি।

৩. এরপর রুগীর জায়গা আইডির ওপিডিতে। অনির্দিষ্টকালের অপেক্ষা। আশেপাশে অজস্র কাশতে,  হাঁচতে, শ্বাসকষ্টে হাঁপাতে থাকা রুগী। খোলামেলা। কোনো শারীরিক দূরত্বের অবকাশ রাখা হয় নি। অধৈর্য্য হয়ে রোগী ও বাড়ির লোক পুলিশকে জিজ্ঞেস করে, কখন বাঙুরে নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে, উত্তর আসেঃ "চুপ চাপ থাকো। যখন সময় হবে, নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে।"

৪. একটা অ্যাম্বুলেন্স আসে ঘন্টা দেড়েক বাদে। এম আর বাঙুর পোঁছায় ওরা। গেটেই রুগীকে নামিয়ে চালক বলেন, ডিপার্টমেন্ট খুঁজে নিতে। বিঃদ্রঃ প্লিজ চালককে অমানবিক ভাববেন না। বিন্দুমাত্র রক্ষাকবচ ছাড়া উনি সারাদিন রুগী নিয়ে যাতায়াত করছেন। সরকার ওনার কোনো দায়িত্ব নেয় নি। ওনারও বাড়িতে বাবা মা, স্ত্রী, সন্তান আছে। 

৫. পুরো ওয়ার্ড জুড়ে রুগীদের হাহাকার। কেউ শ্বাসকষ্টএ ভুগে চলেছেন আর অপেক্ষা করে চলেছেন কখন ডাক্তার আসবে। ছেলে আর বাবা, মা'কে নিয়ে ঘন্টার পর ঘন্টা চিকিৎসার অপেক্ষায়। কাঁদছেন রীতিমতো।  দক্ষিণ চব্বিশের দুই রুগীর মৃত্যু সংবাদ এসেছে ইতিমধ্যে। প্রথমে লেখা হয়েছে কোভিড ১৯. তারপর মৃত্যুর কারণ লেখা নতুন কাগজ এসেছে হৃদরোগ, ফুসফুসের অসুখ ইত্যাদি। এই গোটাটা রুগী আর রুগীর বাড়ির লোক দেখছেন। 

৬. ডাক্তারের ডাক এলো। "আমায় আইডি থেকে রেফার করা হয়েছে এখানে", বছর কুড়ির রুগী জানাল। ডাক্তারের স্পষ্ট উত্তর " এতো কথা জানতে বসে নেই এখানে। রোগ হলে বলো, চিকিৎসা করব". ছেলেটি জানাল যাবতীয় উপসর্গ। শরীরের উষ্ণতা মাপা হল। বলা হল "কিছুই হয় নি। বাড়িতে থাকো। যে ওষুধ লিখে দিচ্ছি, খাও।" রুগী তখনো শ্বাসকষ্টে হাঁপাচ্ছেন। গলায় ব্যাথা। 

৭. এই ছেলেটি জেদ করে, টেস্ট করাবোই, কোন ভরসায় বাবা-মার কাছে ফিরব নাহলে? পরিবারের বাকীদেরই বা কী হবে! অসুস্থ শরীরে হাসপাতালে অনেক ঘোরাঘুরি করে জানতে পারে, রাজারহাটে চিত্তরঞ্জন ক্যান্সার হস্পিটালের দ্বিতীয় চত্ত্বরে টেস্ট হচ্ছে। 

৮. গাড়িটা নিয়ে এবার রাজারহাট। জ্বর, শ্বাসকষ্ট,  গলা ব্যাথা নিয়ে বাবা মা সহ- সিঁথি থেকে বেলেঘাটা আইডি, তারপর এম আর বাঙুর, এবার রাজারহাট।  এখানে পৌঁছে দৃশ্যটা ভয় শুকিয়ে যাওয়ার মতো। খান পাঁচেক লাইন। এক, হাসপাতাল থেকে যাদের হোম ক্যুওরিন্টিন দিয়ে অ্যাম্বুলেন্সে করে এখানে নামিয়ে দেওয়া হয়েছে, তারা লাইন দিয়ে অপেক্ষা করছেন,  আবার কোনো সরকারি গাড়ি তাদের বাড়ি পৌঁছে দেবে। আর কোনো উপায় নেই বাড়ি ফেরার। সকাল থেকে লম্বা লাইন। দুই, যারা টেস্ট করতে চান, সকাল থেকে লাইনে। সন্ধ্যে সাতটা অবধিও ডাক আসেনি। ওখানেই শুয়ে পড়েছেন জ্বর-শ্বাসকষ্টের দরুন৷ তিন, যাদের সরকারিভাবে আইসোলেশনে রাখা হয়েছে,  যেমন করোনায় মৃত মায়ের সন্তান ও পরিবার,  এরা অপেক্ষা করছেন, কোথায় আইসোলেশনে রাখা হবে তার ব্যবস্থার। এই গোটাটায় "শারীরিক দূরত্ব" একটা স্ট্যান্ড আপ কমেডি। 

৯. রাত আটটার একটু আগে, শারীরিক ধকল আর নিতে না পেরে, বিনা টেস্টে ছেলেটি বাড়ি এসেছ। সাথে বাবা মাও। ওষুধ খাবে। বাড়িতে থাকবে। শুধু জানে না ওর করোনা হয়েছে কিনা। বাড়িতে মা বাবা দুজনেই উচ্চরক্তচাপের রুগী। সাথে মায়ের বেশ কিছু সমস্যা আছে। 

সাড়ে ছয় ঘন্টা  কলকাতা শহরে মোট ৬৪ কিলোমিটার ঘুরে বিনা চিকিৎসায়, বিনা টেস্টে ফেরৎ এসেছে। 

এটা আমাদের রাজ্য সরকারী স্বাস্থ্য পরিষেবা, করোনা আতংক চলাকালীন।

Are you from West Bengal, under Mamata Bannerjee’s rule? Suffering from fever, throat ache and breathing ailments? How will you be treated???

Here lies a chronology of events you'll have to face.

1. A student from Baranagar, aged 20 is suffering from fever, breathing ailment and throat ache. He himself and the family had contacted the local police so that he could be taken to hospital for his Covid 19 test. Throughout the morning his family tried to seek help by dialing the govt helpline but none responded. Anyhow they hired a car and reached Beleghata ID by 12 noon.

2. No help could be done by Beleghata ID as they further referred him to M R Bangur. While writing the reference letter- patient name, address and phone numbers were deliberately twisted by the officials. On requesting several times by the patient as well as the family members regarding the correction of name, pin code, and address no heed was paid by the officials.

3. Then the patient was asked to wait at the OPD  of Beleghata ID. After waiting for several hours amidst patients coughing, sneezing, suffering from breathing ailments in open without any physical distance, the patient as well as his family asked the police regarding their transportation to Bangur, to which the police replied " stay quiet, you will be taken when time comes" in a harsh tone.

4. An ambulance arrives after almost 1.5 hours, they reach Bangur. The ambulance driver drops them at the gate and asks them to find the department by themselves. P. S- Please don't judge him on this behaviour since he is toiling day and night for patients without any safety of his own. The govt hasn't yet taken the responsibility of people like him. After all, he too has a family back at home.

5. On reaching the ward they witnessed the plight of several patients like them. Patients are suffering from breathing problems and eagerly waiting for the doctor to arrive. Patients' families are waiting for hours hoping for some treatment, the condition is so horrifying that even some people have started losing faith and are crying. In the mean time news arrives that two people from South 24 Parganas have died. On the official documents the cause of death was stated as Covid 19. Then and there the documents were changed and the new documents read heart and lung ailments as the reason of their death. This was witnessed by the 20 year old patient as well as his family.

6. His turn came. "I am referred by Beliaghata ID", said the patient. An abrupt response from the doctor in charge was: " we are not here for any extra non sense. We are here to treat your problems, that’s all". The boy informed about the symptoms.  His temperature was taken. Finally, "you are fine! Have these medicines and get yourself home quarantined ". He is still having spasm and throat ache.

7. He was stubborn to have the test done. He realised the vulnerability of returning to his family without tests. Bearing all the pains and troubles, he managed getting to know about tests being done in Rajarhat. It is the second campus of Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital, as informed by the Bangur staffs.

8. Reached Rajarhat. He was encountered with five different long queues.  One, Govt Ambulance has dropped a bunch of people at this place who are asked to get home quarantined.  They are waiting for the next commute to come and take them home. It has been hours that they are waiting.  Two, queue of those aspiring for a Covid test to be done. No one showed up a face so far 7 in evening. Patients with severe asthma couldn’t help but lying on the floor. Three, the families of deceased Corona patients, sent for government isolation, have no clues where to go and stay. This queue includes babies, elderly people and so on. However, 

Physical distancing is a hoax over this place.

9. They have returned at around 8. He could no more take the hectic schedule at this condition.  He is home without test, treatment.  His parents as well. Both his parents are high BP patients, clueless about the coming consequences; especially the mother has got a number of more health hazards.

They roamed over the city travelling 64 km. No tests. No treatments. 

This is how Health Service appears during Corona during Pandemic.
